Summer College Opportunities

Dear Parents and Students,

There are great Summer Programs going on at college campuses around Michigan and the country! While some students may have to take summer school at Uprep and others plan to get a job, there are many short summer college programs your student could attend. Here are some tips to getting in:

• Look closely at the Application Deadlines. Many programs are filling up fast, so the sooner you apply, the better!
• Most applications require an Official Transcript. Request Official Transcripts for your applications NOW! (Fill out a Transcript Request Form and return to Uprep’s College Counseling Office). Give us at least a few days to print out your transcript.
• 9th grade students do not have transcripts. Use the 1st trimester narrative (including the Math and Science grades) as the transcript.
• Don’t assume that you will get into your first choice of Summer Program: many are highly competitive. Make sure you apply for more than one program!
• Some programs are Free, while others (particularly out-of-state programs) have a cost. If Scholarships are available, it doesn’t hurt to try! Look on each programs website to see if there is a separate Scholarship application. The sooner you apply, the better chance of getting money.
• Some programs have an Application Fee (money you have to send together with your application). Some programs may waive the application fee if you can’t pay: call the contact number to see.
• Print out applications from the program’s websites. If you can’t do that, send your student to Uprep’s College Counseling Office to pick up an application (2nd floor Green Building).
• Be sure to fill out the applications completely before the deadline! Some require a recommendation letter. Ask anyone at school who thinks highly of your student: Advisors, Principals, Counselors, Teachers. Give them at least a few days to write the letter of recommendation.
