University Preparatory Academy Elementary School - Mark Murray Campus is the newest and last piece of the University Prep Academy K-12 system. It opened in September of 2008 with 384 students, its maximum population at the time. The Mark Murray building and program were designed to match the successful program previously established at UPA's Ellen Thompson Campus. Therefore, all of the basic organizational structures and programs are the same as those found at Ellen Thompson.
The program at University Prep Elementary School - Mark Murray Campus is rigorous, comprehensive, and personalized to meet the individual needs of each student. It includes a strong program of art, music, physical education, and performing arts in addition to outstanding core academics. We consider these experiences to be critical to student success. Research has shown that passion is a critical factor in maintaining the kind of focus and energy that is needed for high achievement in any endeavor. Most young children do not know what they are passionate about. Providing students with a wide range of engaging experiences is necessary to educate children's interests and help them begin to identify their passions, an important engine for future learning.
